Mitch Daniels IN Gov. full of Faith, Delusion, and Ignorance.

Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels recently went public with his ignorance of American history and paranoia about Athesist destroying the “real world”. Click here. He wants Atheists to “think very carefully”.  I have the same advice back at you Mitch my boy!  I have thought very carelfully, and it is precisely becasue I think that I [...]

Obama administration values feel-good religionism over free speech

A good friend just sent me an article about an op-ed the talented Jonathan Turley wrote for USA Today (which is generally a little less talented, journalistically speaking, but that’s a different post). He discussed that the Obama administration helped pass the UN resolution we discussed in March which would recognize exceptions to free speech [...]

Defamation of religion is now a human rights violation (Updated)

It’s sad to note that yesterday the United Nations voted 23 to 11 with 13 nations abstaining to make defamation of religion a human rights violation. The resolution was championed by the Organization of Islamic Countries wishing to prevent the defamation of Islam, as in the case of the Jyllands-Posten Muhammad cartoons. Critics, including the World Jewish Congress, see the resolution as an attack on freedom of expresion and philosopher A.C. Grayling has called it the “deification of stupidity.”

It all started going horribly awry when the youth ministers started soliciting [...]

Rob Boston writes over at the Americans United For Separation Of Church And State Blog about the religious right’s attempts to dust off a golden oldie and polish it for the 21st Century. That’s right, the misguided Parental Rights Amendment is back and being promoted by at a fancy new website. The PRA, first promoted [...]

AIDS in Uganda, the Rick Warren Connection

This is an amazing story from The Daily Beast.
Rick Warren has been working closely with the Martin Ssempe, the charismatic leader of a booming born-again minister promoting abstinence only AIDS eductaion in Uganda, more or less scrapping all the success of the previous, hugely successful ABC program of the Ugandan government.
Ssempe enjoys close ties to [...]

God First, then Homeland Security

Via the Rachel Maddow Show…
Kentucky law currently requires its department of homeland security to depend on god. This is the opening portion of a statement that is required to be posted outside their entrance:
The safety and security of the commonwealth cannot be achieved apart from reliance on almighty god…
Any high schooler should be able to [...]
