What is this whole Freethought thing anyway?

The Freethought movement is, according to Wikipedia, a philosophical viewpoint that holds that beliefs should be formed on the basis of science and logical principles and not be comprised by authority, tradition, or any other dogma. Check out our mission statement on the About page.

That’s all well and good, but if I read between the lines, that means you’re just a bunch of atheists, right?

Freethinking does encompass atheism. But our group consists of people with many different beliefs, and those with any types of belief are welcome. We have agnostics, pantheists, theists, and yes — athiests.

Do I have to be an atheist or an agnostic to attend your meetings?

No! We encourage anyone to join us! As long as you are respectful of our rights to believe what we want, we will be respectful of yours. Our lot is an inquisitive bunch, though, so be prepared to get questions asking you why you believe what you believe. Not ready to talk about it? Just tell us and we’ll back down.

When do you meet?

Our meetings occur the second Wednesday of the month, usually at the Allen County Public Library, where we hold a business meeting and then some programming, which is usually a discussion, short film, slideshow, or something of the like. Check out the main page for more information.

If you want to just get to know is, and talk with FFW members in an informal setting, we try to hold a coffee klatch once a month. Held on Sundays, it’s a chance for us to get together, enjoy great coffee, and chat. Check out the main page for more information about future dates and locations. You can certainly just drop by, but if you get a chance, contact us and let us know you’re coming. That way we can be sure to reserve enough tables.
