We all know it is state law to know how to play Euchre if you reside in Indiana. So you might as well put your Euchre skills to the test. Now is your chance to get in on the inaugural FFW Heathen Euchre Tour! Or FFWHET for short (the H is silent) LOL! I propose we call ourselves the Euchre-ists.
Several members expressed interest in forming a FFW Euchre club of sorts at our last meeting, so now is the time to be dealt in. Just leave a comment below if you are interested in getting together to play. If I don’t have your e-mail, I’ll let you know here.
I’m certainly open to suggestions if anyone has ideas or a favorite form of Euchre they would like to share. Leave your suggestions here too so we can talk about ‘em.
I like tournaments. I try to meet with friends once a month to play in speed Euchre tournaments where the top guy and top gal split the winnings (everybody puts in 5 bucks). We rotate hosts. Usually the hosts would provide a main food dish while everyone would bring a side and any drinks. It can last from 3 to 5 hours depending on how many breaks are taken and how many drinks are poured and how much gabbing is done, but that’s part of the fun.
Shoot, we can even play atheists vs. agnostics if you want! I’m sure the atheists don’t believe the agnostics could win while the agnostics aren’t even sure the atheists will even show up!
But we don’t have to play for money if people aren’t comfortable or whatnot. Really, I just love to play Euchre. We can play couples tournaments, cut-throat tournaments or bid-Euchre. 4-deck, 6-hand bid-euchre is my favorite, and somewhat unique to Hoosier Euchre.
I also love poker, but we’ll have to see who all is interested in that. We could even have separate nights for that; although, many times the poker game breaks out after Euchre has ended. There is also, of course, online Euchre and poker if we have several members who prefer playing in their underwear while eating Pop-tarts and drinking Mountain Dew (you know who you are).
I also love Spades and Hearts, dice (10,000, Ship,Cap ‘n Crew), the game of Go, which is awesome, I might add. I’m a novice MahJong player and would love to meet some people interested in playing that. I have a nice set we can use. It too can be played online.
I still haven’t learned Pinochle or Bridge. If we have interest, I would like to learn those as well.
Hopefully some time in between all that we can make time for all of our members who love Pool, Darts and Bowling!
We’ll schedule the first event once I have an idea of how many people are interested, when they are available, and what they like to play.

count me in
As freethinkers and nerds, we’re only allowed to play Dungeons and Dragons. It’s the law.
Oh, don’t forget Infocom style text adventure games, littlejohn. Plugh!
Well, I’ll admit I was a DM long, long ago, in a fantasyland far, far away, but times have changed somewhat.
Geek can be chic; especially when technology is involved.
I have no excuse for lumbering video games. They have and always will suck.
You understand I’m 55 and have absolutely no idea what any of us is talking about. I remember hearing the term “dungeons and dragons” on a sitcom or something. My wife and I play Scrabble. Later, we listen to the Victrola or go for a drive in our horseless carriage. I think I played something called “Pong” once. Very exciting, but what will it do to the children?
It’s been a very log time since I’ve played Euchre, but depending on time and location I’m in. Getting my husband to attend, now that might be another thing entirely…
I love euchre. Count me in on any games that take place when I’m in the Fort.
You guys have fun, but I’d really be interested in how many of us actually know how to play euchre. A show a hands, please? Isn’t it one of those games like pinocle or canasta that only a few enthusiasts know anything about? I certainly don’t have a clue.
If you’re looking for a wider response, or planning some sort of games-oriented get-together, might I suggest something almost everyone knows, like Scrabble or chess.
Of course, those games carry a sort of white-wine-and-cheese intellectual elite image, but what the hell, we’re atheists. Nobody likes us anyway.
Well, littlejohn, there were at least 8 hands that popped up at the last meeting when asked if they were interested in getting together for Euchre.
As for how many people play it, Euchre is definitely more prominent in the midwest than in other places in the US. It’s played frequently in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana.
If you are going to force me to pull a percentage out of my nether-regions, then I would guess a good 20-25% of adult Hoosiers are well-versed in the ways of Euchre; possibly more.
Wow, that’s freaky. Once again, I obtain another piece of information that may come in handy if Alex Trebeck ever calls back. I guess I’ll have to learn the rules. Can you play strip-euchre?
I’ve never tried strip Euchre. I’ve played for money or shots before, so I don’t see why you couldn’t play for clothes. Unless of course, you’re playing with your grandma or someone of equal shudderyness.
I love a good euchre game, but I’m criminally unserious about it. I’ll have to introduce you to Tichu sometime.
Ok I am not playing strip euchre with you dudes.
Yay! Euchre is fun!
Let me know Jake. I am in like Flinn…
Ok, I count 5 – chris jones, Rene, Tony, Laura K. and dave c.(5 and a half with the principal uncertainty of the whereabouts of G.J. at any given moment). I make 6.
That would be enough for some 6-hand bid-Euchre. I never get to play that very often.
I was thinking a weekend in late January or February. Anybody have a preference?
No preference. Come on Guys and Gals can we get 2 more?
Please put me on your email list for Euchre events. Is this the same email list as the general FreethoughtFW email list? If not, please allow me to receive this email list also.
