Dan Dennett- What happens when seminary students meet biblical criticism

YouTube Preview Image

I loved Dan’s talk and intended to post about it earlier.  The survey about the clergy who don’t believe yet still preach is fascinating.

(Sorry about the delay in posting.  Work is keeping me busy.  I have many more videos to view from AAI and Richard Dawkins website)  What do you think of Dan’s presentation?

    Even in conservative semenaries, even, for instance, in Baptists seminaries, you get that scholarship. Apparently, it’s very hard to find anybody who will be a professor of bible studies and not tell the truth. And so, the love of scholarship, the respect for evidence is playing a subversive role right at the heart of the training program of young clergy.

    Canons of good spin:
    * It is not a bare-faced lie.
    * You have to be able to say it with a straight face.
    * It has to relieve skepticism without arousing curiosity.
    * It should seem profound.

    You go in believing and maybe come out an unwilling con-man.

    It’s just kind of sad, really.
