Dr. Robert M Price will be speaking in Fort Wayne at the Main Allen County Public Library Theater (lower level 2) about his book, “Inerrant the Wind” on July 8th at 7PM.  There will be a question and answer period and Dr. Price has agreed to be interviewed for The Enlightenment Show earlier in the afternoon.  The presentation will be video taped.

From Amazon:

Conservative Protestantism in America has always wrestled with doctrinal controversies over issues ranging from predestination to the mode of baptism, from charismatic gifts to biblical prophecy. But probably none has threatened the American evangelical movement as much as the recent battle for the Bible. The dispute centers on the doctrine of biblical inerrancy–the belief that the Bible is correct in any statement it makes, whether on nature or history, on doctrine or morals.
In this painstakingly researched and penetrating analysis of the controversy, biblical scholar Robert M. Price helps us understand the present evangelical ferment by focusing on a recent period of intense theological conflict in which fundamentalists accused their slightly more mainstream brethren, the evangelicals, of abandoning the doctrine of biblical inerrancy.
Price provides a historical survey of the fundamentalist-modernist controversy of the early twentieth century and argues that this history began repeating itself in the 1970s. Many evangelicals in fact abandoned rigid inerrancy beliefs and began to assimilate to various alternative approaches such as neo-orthodoxy, demythologizing, and Catholicism. Price analyzes the works, big and small, of evangelical theologians and their fundamentalist critics and distills a set of five distinct noninerrancy approaches evolved by liberal evangelicals amid the debate.

Inerrant the Wind

Inerrant the Wind is utterly unique, not only in its comprehensive grasp of the ocean of relevant literature, but also in its cogent taxonomy of evangelical positions for and against inerrancy. Scholars and students on all sides of the debate will want to consult this valuable contribution to an important ongoing debate in the evangelical community.

As erudite as he and his books are, I was a bit disappointed with the lecture he gave the last time he was in Fort Wayne. Hopefully, this one will be better.

Another event worth marking on that day (at least to geeks like me): 12:34:56 7/8/09

    Pet peeve: “utterly unique”. Ug.

This is going to drive me nuts. I know this guy, but I just can’t remember where I know him from. He’s only one month older than I am, but we didn’t go to the same schools — at least not the same ones listed in Wikipedia.
Maybe he’ll remember me. I’ll try to make this meeting.
If I can’t make it, will someone ask him if he remembers a John Anderson from West Virginia? Remind him that I’m tall, handsome and suave, and can kill a man with only one finger; that may help his memory.
If that doesn’t work, tell him the truth. I am fairly tall.

Remind me never to pull littlejohn’s finger, if he ever asks :P

Price is entertaining. This book sounds more interesting than the last. He’s really pumping them out too!

I agree with Jake. “Inerrant the Wind” is more on target with the problems of this area than Robert’s last book “Top Secret”. God’s infallible word of the Bible is a discussion this area desperately needs.

Anon- We are trying to get the most though provoking speakers here but keep in mind at the time, the Robert Price lecture last year was the most freethinking speech in the area. Period. I guess I am saying, help make these better by contributing to the conversation and bringing in more talent.

If I ever ask anyone to pull my finger, you’d all be well advised to leave the room for a while. I’ve been know to asphyxiate small housepets.

I’ve said to Andy in the past that with the combined knowlege of the ffw, a book from ffw in great details could be made. With combined efforts it could be a block buster. People are gettingrich off this stuff right now because it’s becomming so much more mainstreem. Eyes Open?

Anthony, I’m not sure what you’re saying, but that may be due to my own history of substance abuse.
If you’re suggesting we get together and write a book, well, hell, why not?
I’m the published author of two astonishingly bad books, so I’d be willing to do the actual writing (I’m also unemployed, which helps).
For an idea of the crap I’ve conned publishers into printing, Google “Hitler’s Crystal Anderson” and “How to Steal Food From the Supermarket.” Really, I got paid for writing that shit.
They may be junk, but I didn’t pay to publish them. Not many writers of crap can say that.
Get your spelling and grammar worked out, and let me know what you have in mind.
    Cheers, John
