We have scheduled the second FreeThought Clean-Up for Sunday, May 17th at 10 AM. It was fun and wet on our first clean up and we know there is much trash on the sides of the road. We need all the help we can get and I thought the logistics and the meeting place worked well. Check back here on the morning before the clean up. If the weather is bad we will reschedule for the following Sunday. A group of us may go out for lunch after the clean up. Other secular groups across the country have had much success with similar programs. We will help clean up our city, build friendships and alliances, and get some exercise. We will do this 4 times a year. In return, INDOT has given us these lovely signs.
This link uses Google Maps to identify the 2-mile stretch of Highway 3 that we have adopted. There is also a Meeting Spot marker indicating where we will be meeting on Sunday, May 17th at 10AM.
What you need to be prepared for and what you need to bring
The 2-mile stretch of Highway 3 begins just north of Cedar Canyons Road and ends just shy of the county line. There are at least 2 small creeks (and therefore bridges) that will need to be crossed and there are some fairly steep inclines along the side of the road. As you are aware, Spring in Indiana can be unpredictable so dress in layers. You will want to wear appropriate footwear to handle the inclines and potentially soggy ground. Also, you will need to bring a good pair of work gloves because we will be picking up trash.
Where we will be meeting
We will be meeting just down the road so we can hand out safety vests, trash bags and last-minute instructions. We will be meeting in the parking lot of the baseball diamonds at Gump Rd and Highway 3 (on the northwest corner). Once we have the final instructions we will drive out to the site and begin work.
What we need from you right now
Please e-mail or use the contact form to get in touch with me (select President from the drop down menu) if you can participate and how many will be attending. I know most of you raised your hands during the planning meetings and we need to know how many vests to request. Get your significant other, a friend and even your kids (as long as they are over 12 years old) to come help clean a small slice of Fort Wayne/Allen County.
Thanks,
Andy D
PS-Thanks to Skeptigator for helping with the text, pictures, and logistics…

Don’t mean to change the subject, but… has anyone noticed the News Sentinel has another meaningless online poll?
Do we agree with Bishop D’arcy’s decision to boycott Obama’s speech?
Let’s hit it. There are two “No” options. I picked the second, since being president doesn’t automatically qualify a person for respect. Just look at the guy we recently got rid of.
Hi Littlejohn,
I like the heads-up and I will vote. However, I suggest that FreeThought Fort Wayne stay away from The News-Sentinel polls for awhile. As the moderator of this post, I ask that we move any further conversation of news-sentinel polls over to the original post at http://freethoughtfortwayne.org/2009/04/14/news-sentinel-youre-christian/
Thanks,
Andy D
Psst. “Sentinel.” Not *”Sentential.”
Also: Rather weird pointing people to a thread that’s been dead for a week, but whatev. See there for my comment about this, I guess.
