One of the oft-repeated knocks against freethought as a worldview is that it lacks inspiration. When we get together, it does sometimes seem like we spend a great deal of time debunking, pointing out hypocrisies, fighting pseudoscience and anti-science, and so on. Unfortunately, the sheer lack of critical thinking in our culture has directly led to this enormous volume of “cleanup” work, so it naturally dominates our discussions. However, I believe we as freethinkers also need to make a conscious effort to focus on the positive; on what we do believe.
The theme of our upcoming March meeting is “FreeThought: What Inspires You?” We’ve asked our members to share what specifically about freethought inspires them.
Maybe it’s passage from Sagan, Ingersoll, or Russell.
Maybe it’s a piece of art or music.
Maybe it’s a new scientific discovery.
Maybe it’s a well-crafted YouTube video.
Whatever the case, each member will have the opportunity to share their inspirational items at the meeting. The crew of The Enlightenment Show will be on hand to film the contributions for a future episode. If you wish to participate, please send an email to vicepresident (at) freethoughtfortwayne (dot) org. There should be time at the meeting for impromptu suggestions, however, we’d like to have some advance notice to avoid duplication.
Contributions from the larger freethought community are certainly welcome – we’ll do our best to share them at the March meeting, and this project is likely to become a recurring agenda item as well as its own archive here on the website.
Please email me with any questions.
Thanks,
Michael B

So this meeting was a damn good idea and worked out really well. We should do presentations and topics more often.
Good job, everyone who presented.
I couldn’t agree more! I watched it again while loading the tapes onto a hard drive. I will have the video posted in about a week.
The meeting was GREAT. Made me feel all warm and fuzzy. Maybe we should have a presentation at each meeting. Someone could sign up to do a 10 min or shorter presentation at for every meeting. (I had wanted to do something, but was sick for almost the entire two weeks before the meeting and didn’t think about it. So a presentation per meeting is my sneaky way of doing a presentation after the fact
) I’m sure there are other people who would like to do presentations who didn’t this time.
