What Part of “No Religious Test” Don’t These People Understand?

I’m sure most everyone has heard of this by now, but I think it needs to be discussed here.  I apologize in advance for what you are about to see.

Naturally, the Hagan campaign has responded forcefully, and the polls show her substantially pulling away from Elizabeth Dole.

You could literally cut and paste the response to this idiocy from the defense of Barack Obama:

And it is permitted to be said, such things as, “Well, you know that Mr. Obama Kay Hagan is a Muslim godless.” Well, the correct answer is, he she is not a Muslim godless, he’s she’s a Christian. He’s She’s always been a Christian. But the really right answer is: What if he she is? Is there something wrong with being a Muslim godless in this country?

My question is, why are there no public figures, especially those with the pull of someone like a Colin Powell, speaking out against this? If anyone has heard someone, particularly not of the godless persuasion, coming to our defense, please post a link here.

I hope I live to see the day when people everywhere are just as stunned to see a religious nut running for office because we have come to our senses and finally aren’t afraid to call a religious nut for what he or she is- a nut. Because right now it is the exact opposite. Not only is it still considered distasteful to be an atheist, but the majority of people still believe that you have to be a crazy nut to not believe in god.

I’ve learned over the years that the things religious people preach against are the very things they obsess over. The more adamant they are about something, the more you can bet they are involved in it. You can almost predict the irony.

I bet Fred Phelps is gay, just like the druggie-hating Limbaugh loves drugs, just like the anti-porn Christians obsess over porn in the south, just like everybody on FOX news is anti-American and they know it, just like your religious leaders harbor doubts about their bullshit story but hang around for the paycheck and sense of “doing good” in the community. The list goes on and on…

I prefer the phrase all gods free to godless… I think we give too much up when we use the term god instead of gods. We fall into their arguments when we do that. How many gods have men dreamed up?

There’s a documentary I watched in a class called “330 Million Gods” It’s all about the variety of gods in Hinduism. In actuality there is a trinity of big-G Gods and then there’s a plethora (hundreds of million) small-g gods & goddesses.

The shear number of deities in Hinduism makes it seem strange to our Western monotheistic paradigm, but why is one god (whom is also a trinity) better than 330 million?

It seems like Halloween is an opportune time to talk about irrational belief in spooky divine things. Now that Halloween is over, it’s a symbolic time for a clarion call to humanity to stop being so scared all the time. Be spook-free, be god-free.

I don’t know how I have gone so long without discovering this site but thank you very much for making it, I shall now follow this site ‘religiously’ as it were ;)

Also, I hope Hagan wins now.

I don’t know of any public figures coming to the defense of the non-believers around here. It would be a courageous stance to make, but more than likely, would not be well received by the masses. For the moment, it seems a vast number of our elected officials here are hell-bent on wearing their religion on their sleeve. A few years back, when IPFW chose to put on the play “Corpus Christi”, Representative Souder called the play “blasphemous” and threatened to pull future funding for the university.

There is hope our country will start moving in a more balanced, secular direction. This shift is already occurring primarily on parts of the west coast and has even garnered a name – The Unchurched Belt.

I heard about this godless jab at the politician. So sad, they should be in aww that she has the courage and mental wit to see the truth in a scientific way and isn’t swayed by her emotional feelings to believe in something that isn’t there just because she thinks she feels it. Every time I leave a basement I feel as if something is lurking in the dark. I’m sure I’m right. Plenty of darkness lurking and a few spiders and maybe a mouse.

I don’t even think Hagan is an atheist, she was just in the same room with some atheists, that’s how ridiculous this is.

In case you didn’t catch it, I’m pleased to report that Kay Hagan defeated Elizabeth Dole. I didn’t have a horse in that race, but I’m glad to see that the ad did not have the power the Dole camp hoped it would.

Additionally, when reporting on the Hagan-Dole race, the talking heads on TV condemned the ad. That was nice to hear.

Honestly, I wish i could find the whole clip of that interview with David Silverman by O’rilley, I imagine it’s another one where O’rilley get’s his ass handed to him… I loved how he was afraid to even give Dawkins a chance to answer questions seriously…

Come on, Joel, you’ll never get anything by wishing for it…

    …Oh wait, yeah you will.
